Mobilizing for Local Food Security in Ontario
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SUPPORT OUR LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM?
Farmers
Rural and urban eco-farmers in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
organizations
Like-minded organizations like National Farmers Union, Indigenous Food Systems Network, FoodShare, and Afri-Can Food Basket
providers & leaders
Food providers, community leaders, youth leaders, and anyone else driven towards a better food system.
Food Corps
The Eco-Just Food Network (EJFN) trains and mobilizes youth and community members to form a skilled Food Corps that assists ecological farmers, small scale food processors (e.g. cheese makers) and vulnerable communities to grow, harvest, process and access healthy food. Food providers get the skilled labour they need to grow, harvest, process and distribute healthy food. Food Corps members develop valuable skills, are duly compensated, have access to fair shares of the food being produced and help distribute healthy food to communities most at risk and to low-waged essential workers.
Time Bank
An alternative social economy that rewards productive labour. When an individual participates in Food Corps work trips, they receive 1 Time Credit per hour worked. Time Credits can be freely exchanged between others in the Time Bank for goods and services, and they can be redeemed at our pop-up markets for fresh, locally grown organic produce at a value of $15!
